Somatic Therapy for Trauma

Do any of these statements resonate?

  • You’re feeling unable to stop the cycle of trauma, stuck in unhealthy relational patterns.

  • You’re feeling out of control, reacting in ways that seem out of proportion.

  • You’re feeling unable to start healing.

  • You’re struggling with the impacts of trauma, abuse, neglect and craving relief.

  • You’re feeling numb and disconnected from your emotions and body without knowing why.

  • You’re tired of feeling hyper-vigilant and tired.

  • You’re feel scared and alone.

If so, I can help. My approach to trauma work has helped many people who come in with these questions. It’s possible to have more connection, regulation and healing.

While I am not yet a certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, I integrate somatic techniques inspired by Somatic Experiencing® as part of my training.

Somatic Therapy for Trauma

Whether from a single distressing event or prolonged periods of stress, trauma can linger long after the experience has passed, shaping how you feel, think, and move through the world.

Guided by my ongoing Somatic Experiencing® training, we work with your body’s innate intelligence to help you feel safe, present, and connected to your emotions, needs, and relationships again. Somatic Experiencing® supports your nervous system in completing the trauma response cycle — the instinctive reactions your body wasn’t able to fully process at the time — allowing trapped energy and tension to release naturally. By slowing down, listening, and trusting your body, old stress and trauma can gently unwind, creating space for deep, transformative change.

This work also equips you with practical tools to manage fear, sadness, and anger, and to recognize patterns that no longer serve you — so you can move forward with greater ease, resilience, and self-understanding.

FAQs

  • Somatic Experiencing® helps overcome trauma by focusing on the body's physical sensations, releasing trapped stress energy, and gently rewiring the nervous system to move from "fight/flight/freeze" back to a state of calm, allowing you to process traumatic memories safely without being overwhelmed, often using techniques like mindful breathing and grounding to build internal resilience. It complements traditional talk therapy by addressing trauma's deep physical imprint, helping you gradually regain control and feel present, rather than just talking about the past.

  • No. Using Somatic Experiencing®, we focus on what you feel in your body right now, not on re-telling or reliving the traumatic event. Healing happens through a gradual, body-based process that allows your nervous system to safely complete the trauma response cycle. If you notice intense feelings arise and start feeling flooded, we slow down, help you re-ground, and work at a pace your body can tolerate — building your capacity to experience and release difficult emotions without being overwhelmed.
This work requires patience and isn’t always easy, and you may not feel immediate relief. What you will notice is leaving sessions more present, more attuned to your feelings, and more connected to yourself.

  • Sessions are gentle, guided, and collaborative. We begin by checking in with what’s present for you, then explore body awareness, breath, sensation, or subtle movement to support nervous system regulation. There’s no pressure to perform or “get it right”, here we follow your pace and your body’s cues. In sessions, I’m here with you to explore difficult feelings and sensations, while staying in the present moment — we focus on what you feel now and not just re-telling the story.

  • No, I am not certified yet. I am currently in my second year of the three-year Somatic Experiencing® training program. While I am not yet a certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, I bring what I am learning in training to my work in a careful, client-centered way. My focus is on supporting your nervous system safely, helping you release stored tension and trauma at a pace that feels manageable, without needing to relive traumatic memories.

  • Somatic therapy is a body-based, nervous system–informed approach to healing. Rather than focusing only on thoughts or stories, it gently includes what your body is experiencing, because stress and trauma are not just psychological, they’re physiological.

When something overwhelming happens, the body can hold onto survival responses long after the event has passed. This can show up as chronic tension, fatigue, digestive issues, headaches, shallow breathing, feeling easily overwhelmed, emotionally numb, or reactive to certain triggers.

In somatic therapy, we slow down and listen to these signals with curiosity and care. By working with the nervous system — not against it — we help your body complete unfinished stress responses, restore regulation, and create a deeper sense of safety, steadiness, and connection.
